Description

Tangy, aromatic classic Red Enchilada Simmer Sauce with zippy chili flavor, made even better with rich notes of cocoa, smoked paprika and the pleasantly warm heat of ancho pepper. A bold and smoky red sauce for simmering cheese, beef or chicken enchiladas.

The Spanish word enchilar, meaning "to add chili," is the base of the word enchilada. While a dish similar to enchiladas was mentioned in the 1500s by Bernal Diaz del Castillo, a Spanish conquistador, meals similar to this were likely part of Mayan culture far longer fish wrapped in corn tortillas, among other varieties. This famous dish has evolved to include mole and enchiladas rojas or verdes.

How To Use

Directions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Lightly grease a 3-quart baking dish.
Wrap 8 tortillas in a sheet of foil and warm in oven for 5 minutes.
Remove tortillas; place 2 Tbsp. shredded Monterey Jack or cheddar cheese into each tortilla; roll and place seam-side down in baking dish.
Cover with Simmer Sauce and sprinkle with additional cheese, if desired.
Cover dish with foil and bake for 12 minutes, or until heated through. Remove foil; bake 5 minutes more. Serve with your favorite toppings.
